Mudhens win two more non-league games

The Miesville Mudhens have a knack for winning. They're sitting comfortably at the top of the Classic Cannon Valley League standings at 10-0, and their overall record (22-3) is nothing to brush off, either.

The Mudhens continued to show their strength in two non-league games against Woodbury and Bay City.

Miesville's trio of Matt Hanse, Brian Myers, and Andrew Werner combined to hold Woodbury to just two hits last Friday night at Jack Ruhr Field in Miesville. The Mudhens scored all of their runs in the middle innings, including five in the fourth. Woodbury scored it's lone run in the seventh inning. Miesville won, 10-1.

Miesville relies on getting the top of the order on base, according to player/manager Garrett Retka, and against Woodbury they did just that. The sixth inning started with two straight doubles, and Woodbury eventually walked the bases loaded that inning as well. Miesville went on to score four in the sixth.

Miesville jumped to an early lead Sunday afternoon at their home field by, once again, utilizing the speed of the top of their order. Bay City's inability to throw strikes in the first two innings allowed the Mudhens to score all of their runs in those two frames.

Josh Loewen baffled Bay City by throwing seven innings while giving up only four hits and striking out five. Luke Rasmussen pitched the final two innings without allowing a hit.

The Mudhens next game is a CCVL game against Randolph (0-10) Thursday, July 15. The game begins at 8 p.m. at Miesville's Jack Ruhr Field. The Mudhens will host Rosetown Friday, and then they're back to league play with a CCVL game at Dundas Sunday.
