Hawks fall to Green Isle in Miller Lite Invitational

The Hastings Hawks traveled to Green Isle last weekend to play in the Green Isle/Hamburg Miller Lite Invitational tournament.

Hastings faced Litchfield first and won, 14-5. The Hawks scored three runs in the first inning, three in the second, two in the third, four in the fifth and two in the seventh. Adam Barta picked up his second win of the year, allowing five runs on six hits. He walked no runners and struck out five.

Hastings pounded out 15 hits and three homeruns in the game. Steve Krashaar hit a three-run homer in the second, Mark Moriarty hit a solo shot in the third, and David Goggin hit a two-run homer in the fourth. Krashaar had a perfect night at the plate, going four for four and scoring four runs.

Game two pitted Hastings against Isanti. The Hawks scored two in the first and two in the seventh to win, 4-1. The game was capped by a two-run single by T.J. Galenti, who was pinch hitting for Tony Kaiser. Runs were made by Sam Ryan, Brandon Peterson, Derrick Pfeffer and Moriarty.

In game three, the Hawks took on Green Isle. David Vogelgesang started on the mound for Hastings. Four hits from Ryan, Jordy Horsch, Pfeffer and Vogelgesang scored Hastings two runs in the first inning. Green Isle followed with one run on a walk and two hits. Hastings scored again in the third, but allowed five runs on six hits and gave Green Isle the lead, 6-3. Hastings combined two singles and a stolen base in the seventh for another run, but lost the game, 6-4.

Pfeffer led the Hawks in hitting with three hits. Horsch, Ryan and Kaiser each had two hits.

Green Isle went on to beat the St. Joseph Saints and win the tournament.

The Hawks return to Veterans Park Friday to host the Cannon Falls Bears in Classic Cannon Valley League game. First pitch is at 7:30 p.m.
