Raiders have tough time at Saatzer invite

One of the Hastings boys golf team gets out of a bunker on the ninth hole at the Hastings Country Club.

The Hastings boys golf team went into Monday's Don Saatzer Invitational hoping to win the tournament title. The Raiders were edged out by Hill-Murray last year, and wanted to get the title back.

Unfortunately for the Raiders, that didn't happen.

The team ended up placing 13th in a very competitive field.

"(It was) not a good day from our team," Hastings coach Pete McGinnis said. "I thought we were tight and played with too much pressure."

Alex Wagner shot a 77 and finished seventh overall.

"Alex was outstanding through 14 holes, but didn't finish like he has been," McGinnis said.

Max Fox shot a 78 and finished eighth.

"Max had a great day putting," McGinnis said.

Josh Brewster had an 83. Two players tied for the fourth varsity score -- Bryce Martin and Josh Fox -- with 92s.

Paul Morris rounded out the varsity team with a 97.

"We had lots of missed opportunities with great course conditions," McGinnis said. "We continue to stay positve, and we will work on the little things."

McGinnis said he wanted to thank Brad Schmierer of the Hastings Country Club and Cub Foods for helping to make the tournament a success.
