Girls Golf: Raiders take 7th at SEC meet

Jordy Klimek reacts as her drive at the Hastings Country Club heads in a direction she hadn't planned during Thursday's Suburban East Conference tournament.

It continues to be a busy spring for the Hastings girls golf team. For two days in a row late last week, the Raiders played at home at the Hastings Country Club.

On Thursday, the Raiders played host to a Suburban East Conference tournament. Hastings placed seventh out of nine teams.

The Raiders were led by Ellen Bergschneider, who shot a 51. Taylor Thoreson had a 52, Sadie Karbo had a 52, and Lexie Harp had a 52 to round out the scoring for the Raiders, who finished with a 207.

Also playing varsity were Jordy Klimek, who had a 53, and Hannah Hoffman, who had a 61.

Harp was playing as the team's No. 6 golfer, and had been splitting time between the varsity and the junior varsity. Her 52 was especially well received considering those circumstances.

"I was impressed with Lexie," Hartung said. "It was nice to see her step up. She was pretty happy about it, too."

Should the Raiders hope to move up the SEC standings, they'll have to get better at putting, Hartung said.

"The girls played well," Hartung said. "We just need to work on our putting. We have some girls who are real consistent, but we still need to start dropping strokes to be in the running."
