Arthur L. Balitz

Arthur L. Balitz

Art Balitz, 66, born in Hastings, MN, transitioned peacefully at his home in Sarasota, FL with his wife Madelyn at his side on 4/11/18 after bravely battling brain cancer for 10 months. A music and elementary school educator, he enjoyed supporting children in learning and loving music. He also served as a Principal of an elementary school and was respected and admired by his teacher colleagues. After retiring in 2016, he enjoyed more travel and stayed productive, working as an editor and project manager for a book publisher.

Director of a church choir for over 20 years, he was known for bringing people a close, spiritual feeling through his music. Art's strong bass voice was a gift he shared throughout his life- in musicals, improvisational groups and choirs. He used his guitar to entertain, teach and for pure enjoyment.

Art was a member of the Toastmasters Public Speaking Club for 6 years and accomplished his Distinguished Toastmasters Award. He had a strong dedication and support for his fellow Toastmasters, attending two club meetings each week, even while battling brain cancer.

Art enjoyed golfing and if he did not succeed at becoming the top golfer, he found camaraderie in sharing his leisure time with his many "bromances".

He is survived by his sisters Lani (Bernie) Merrick and Jane (Jim) Maher of Hastings MN, his 3 sons Jeremy (Jen) Balitz of Ocala FL. and their twin sons, Nathan (Nikita Schultz) Balitz of Colorado, Garrett (Kayla) Balitz and their 4 children of MI, 3 Stepchildren & 2 step-granddaughters. He is preceded in death by his parents Clarence & Leona Balitz, brother Jerry and sister Linda Keeran.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 19, 2018 at 2 PM, at Unity of Sarasota Church.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Unity of Sarasota. 3023 Proctor Rd. Sarasota, FL 34231. Specify for the children and music ministry.
