Girls' tennis: Raiders fight during tough week

The Hastings girls' tennis team hit a bit of a snag this past week as they attempted to battle through a tough part of their schedule. The Raiders have gone 2-4 overall since Sept. 11, over the course of three duals and an invitational. They now have a record of 10-8 and have just four matches left before section playoffs.

Duals

Hastings lost to Northfield in a close dual Sept. 11. Elizabeth Henrichs fell in first singles 2-6, 1-6; Amy Roach lost second singles 2-6, 5-7; Emily Beyer pulled out the win in third singles 6-3, 5-7, 11-9; and Erika Henrichs lost in fourth singles 1-6, 1-6. The Raiders won two-of-three doubles matches but were not able to get the sweep for the win. Isabella Kranz and Anri Sakakibara won first doubles 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(4); Rachel Weber and Ava Hernlem took second doubles 7-5, 2-6, 6-3; but then Morgan Reinardy and Anna Lindner lost in third doubles 4-6, 4-6.

The next day they bounced back and beat South St. Paul. Winners for Hastings were Roach in second singles (6-2, 4-6, 11-9); Beyer in third singles (6-1, 2-1); and then a clean sweep of doubles by Kranz/Sakakibara (6-3, 6-1); Weber/Hernlem (6-0, 6-1) and Reinardy/Lindner (6-1, 6-1). Elizabeth Henrichs lost in first singles (4-6, 7-5, 3-10) and Erika Henrichs dropped fourth singles (0-6, 6-7 (4).

The Raiders lost another close dual on Thursday, Sept. 14, against Henry Sibley 3-4. Henry Sibley won all four singles matches but the Raiders were able to take all the doubles. Elizabeth Henrichs lost first singles and Roach fell in second singles by identical scores of 3-6, 1-6; Beyer dropped third singles 7-5, 3-6, 3-6 and Erika Henrichs lost in fourth singles 1-6, 1-6.

Eagan Invitational

Hastings took some lumps at Eagan. The Raiders lost 5-2 to Eagan, their victories coming from Sakakibara in third singles (6-0, 6-3) and Lindner/Reinardy in third doubles (6-2, 6-3). They then lost to Elk River 6-1 with their lone win courtesy of Roach in second singles (7-6, 6-2).

They were then able to bounce back against Winona and won 6-1. Hastings swept all of the singles and dropped just one doubles match. Kranz won first singles 6-0, 6-0; Sakakibara grabbed second singles 6-2, 6-1; Lindner took third singles 6-1, 6-2 and Alex Doughty got a chance at fourth singles and won 6-1. Elizabeth Henrichs and Roach lost in first doubles 6-2, 6-4; Weber/Hernlem won second doubles 6-4, 6-4 and Beyer/Reinardy took third doubles 6-0, 6-0.

Hastings hosted Simley on Tuesday, Sept. 19, and travels to Mahtomedi on Thursday, Sept. 21.
