The city of Hastings announced May 9 the appointment of David Wilske to deputy police chief for the Hastings Police Department.

Wilske is a 20-year police veteran currently serving as patrol lieutenant of the University of Minnesota Police Department, an agency with a staff of about 60 people. He has served in a number of positions within the agency including patrol officer, investigator, patrol sergeant and investigative, administrative and operations lieutenant. He also led the opening of TCF Stadium.

Wilske was appointed after going through several interviews with department staff, organization staff and community members. A leadership assessment was conducted and the finalist interviews were with Chief Bryan Schafer and city administrator Melanie Mesko Lee.

Wilske will begin work at the Hastings Police Department May 31. The city is also in the process of filling a new commander position through an internal promotional process.
