Regina Legacy Awards presented to three outstanding employees
Three exceptional employees were recognized for their service at the annual Regina Legacy Awards.
Every year, Regina Hospital and Regina Senior Living invite nominations for the most prestigious employee awards, which are named in honor of three founding members of the Hastings medical campus: Fr. Dunne, Dr. Just and Sr. Tabitha.
This year’s awards were presented in a celebration March 31 to the following members of staff:
• Dr. Melody McKenzie, family medicine doctor with a special interest in OB/GYN, Allina Health Hastings First Street Clinic (Dr. Just provider award)
• Michelle Radtke, patient care manager, Regina Hospital (Sr. Tabitha leadership award)
• Maria Reis, development officer, Regina Foundation (Fr. Dunne healing presence award)
There were 19 nominees for the 2016 awards, highlighting employees from across the Regina campus. Some employees received multiple nominations for the awards, which are considered the highest honor that can be achieved by a Regina member of staff.
“This recognition provides a unique and very special way for Regina to continue the legacy and spirit of Dr. Just, Sr. Tabitha and Fr. Dunne,” said Tom Thompson, president of Regina Hospital. “Individuals honored with these awards are acknowledged by their peers as emulating the values expressed by these icons of our tradition. It is a great honor and is another piece of our tradition that makes us unique.”
“The Regina Legacy Awards honor outstanding staff, leaders, and physicians who serve our clients,” said Kari Everson, chief executive officer of Regina Senior Living. “We believe it is important to honor those individuals who contribute to the quality and success of our organization. These awards are a wonderful opportunity to not only show our gratitude, but also to highlight each nominee’s gifts and the qualities that make them special to both our clients and our organization.”
Dr. Just provider award
As a family medicine doctor with a special interest in OB/GYN at the Allina Health Hastings First Street Clinic, Dr. Melody McKenzie greets all with a warm smile and demonstrates the depth of her care for both patients and staff. She always shows concern for the patient first and advocates always to be respectful of the beliefs and backgrounds of all patients. She holds herself personally accountable, is open and honest, and is respected widely for her integrity and teamwork.
Sr. Tabitha leadership award
Michelle Radtke, patient care manager for the medical surgical department, special care unit and care management at Regina Hospital, works hard to create an environment of healing and caring for patients. She often talks with her nurses about the importance of going “above and beyond” to make patients’ and families’ hospital experience exceptional. Michelle makes a concerted effort to pop into patients’ rooms to introduce herself. She is by nature encouraging. As a nurse, she is competent and effective. And as a manager, she demonstrates great leadership, works with integrity and is dependable.

Maria Reis’s warm, welcoming disposition make her an asset to the Regina Foundation, which serves both Regina Senior Living and Regina Hospital facilities. Her stewardship, proactive approach to taking care of needs and consideration for others make her a valuable member of the team. Her nomination draws a parallel with Fr. Dunne: “In all of her communications, people feel valued because she listens before she responds.”
