Officers called after hand found along bike trail; Turns out it was a false alarm
A portion of the bike trail along the Vermillion River in Hastings was closed Saturday afternoon after a hand was found along the trail.
Upon further investigation, though, it turned out that the hand was in fact a bear paw.
The paw was found Saturday along the trail that runs behind Bohlken Drive. Officers were called and they set up a perimeter around the object. The medical examiner was called and they came to the conclusion that the object was a bear paw and not a hand.
It's unclear how the paw arrived at its destination along the path, but officers are looking into it.
