Who has the best chili in Hastings? That’s what a group from Hope Lutheran Church and Preschool tried to find out at Alyssa’s Chili Cook-off on Saturday, Feb. 27.

The group put on a community-wide event to raise funds for Alyssa Wenskaug, a student in the preschool who had surgery earlier this winter. The event included a chili competition, silent auction items, a photo booth and games, all held at the Hastings Arts Center. With more than 30 silent auction items and 23 different varieties of chili, the event raised more than $3,000 for the family.

And, coming down to a three-way tie, the winners of the title “Best Chili in Hastings” were Tracey Fearon, Rodney Tuttle and Tammy Lubben. They each received an award ribbon, a chili pot trophy and wooden spoons as prizes.
