Sandra J. Redding, 71, of Shell Lake, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, at Luther Midelford in Eau Claire from complications due to multiple health issues.
She was born June 11, 1942, in Eau Claire, Wis., to Harvey and Violet (Saxe) Hazen. Sandra was raised in Eau Claire and graduated from Memorial High School in 1960. After high school, Sandra attended a secondary school for secretarial training and worked at an insurance office. She was married in Arkansaw, Wis., on May 19, 1962, to Bernard Redding, who preceded her in death on July 31, 2013. Together they moved to Ellsworth in 1963, bought their first house, and raised their children. Sandra worked at Smead Manufacturing in River Falls for 20-plus years and also worked for the school district in the kitchen for a short period of time.
Sandra enjoyed cooking, sewing, working on crossword puzzles, and watching Wheel of Fortune. Most of all, she loved to go camping with her family and attending her children and grandchildren's school/family events. After retiring, Bernard and Sandra moved to Shell Lake where she was involved with the Clam River Tuesday Club and helped with voting registration for Dewey Township. Sandra was a very giving and gentle-hearted lady who always thought of others before herself. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Sandra is survived by her children, Jeff (Deanna) Redding of Ellsworth, Dawn (Bill) Kane of Coon Rapids, Minn., Tim (Chris) Redding of Ellsworth, and Robyn (Robin) Major of New Richmond; grandchildren, Nate, Jessie, Rachael, Andrea, Christopher, Tanner, Spencer, James, Heather, Chase, and Michael; great-grandchildren, Shawn and Aubriella; and her brother, Jerome Hazen of Eau Claire.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, parents, and a grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Spooner, Wis., with Father Ed Anderson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Durand, Wis. Pallbearers are Deanna Redding, Bill Kane, Robin Major, Nate Kane, Rachael Kane, Chris Major, James Major, Spencer Redding, Tanner Redding and Heather Kane. Friends may call from 4-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Skinner Funeral Home in Shell Lake and 1 hour prior to Mass on Friday at the church.
