United Way launches Donation Zone

The United Way of Hastings (UWH) offers a new way to give and benefit the community — Donate It to a Good Cause at the Donation Zone.

Donate a car, truck, boat or other power equipment to a good cause at United Way Hastings and receive a tax donation.

Donation Zone is a unique way for people to donate items they no longer use and make a generous gift to benefit the Hastings area community. By contacting Donation Zone, a pick-up date of the donated item will be scheduled within 48 hours. If the item can be sold, the donor can look to claim a tax deduction. Proceeds from the sale of the donated item can be claimed as a tax deduction. All legal transfers of ownership will be completed. The United Way will provide the donor with receipts and any necessary tax documentation.

"Thanks to a partnership with Cranky Ape, an online auction service located in Hastings, United Way of Hastings is now able to accept donations of vehicles and other equipment via the Donation Zone," said Mari E. Mellick, CAE's executive director. "Proceeds from the sale of the equipment go directly to impacting the community through services provided by UWH and by UWH Funded Partner Agencies."

The three-step process makes it simple for donors: Call Donation Zone at the UWH at 651-438-3337. UWH handles the free pickup and paperwork. Claim your tax deduction.

"With spring upon us, now is the perfect time to clean out that garage or shop and easily get rid of items that you don't use and benefit others along the way," Mellick said. "Plus, there is a free pickup and the donor gets a tax deduction."

A variety of items can be donated such as cars, trucks, boats/pontoons, campers/RVs, motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles, jet skis and trailers. For complete details, visit www.unitedwayofhastings.org or call 651-438-3337.

UWH is building a better Hastings by impacting those with disabilities, schoolchildren that are hungry, youth that need a web of support, the elderly in need of household help, and many more people every day.
