Hastings native Mary Fasbender announced her candidacy Oct. 4 for the mayor of Hastings in the 2018 election.

"I am fortunate to have so much early support for my campaign and am very much looking forward to speaking with many Hastings residents and business owners in the coming months," Fasbender said.

Fasbender is a longtime small business owner and community volunteer. She currently participates with the Meals on Wheels program, Mayo Clinic Hospice pet therapy team, Hastings Comprehensive Plan Committee, Hastings Democracy Project and the Hastings Diversity Group. She also organizes Gobble Gait, something she started from scratch in 1998 and has since raised $1.4 million for Hastings Family Service.

Fasbender also is known for her hairdressing business, MDK Design for Hair.

She said that with her years of business experience and community involvement have given her the perspective to be a positive leader in Hastings.

"I'm not a politician. I offer a fresh perspective as someone who has owned a business, paid taxes, employed people and for years worked closely with other business owners and residents to make Hastings a better place," Fasbender said. "I want to share my skills and ideas with the entire city as mayor and help our community thrive."
