City Council: Rezoning, housing development and marina modifications

The next Hastings City Council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6. Here's a look at what's on the agenda.

Staff recommended at a previous meeting that the lot between East Second and Third streets and east of Tyler Street be rezoned from I-1 (industrial use) to DC (downtown core). A new park and ride lot is scheduled to be constructed there this fall. The lot was formerly home to Anson Grain Elevators, which were demolished in the 1990s. The site has not been used for industry since. The downtown core zoning district includes a variety of commercial and residential uses, and development must adhere to the Original Hastings Design Guidelines of the Heart of Hastings Plan. A public hearing will be held on the matter.

A Hastings developer, Greg J. Homes, is seeking approval from council to turn eight single family home lots into 10 lots. Earlier this year, Greg J. Homes converted the original 11 townhome lots to eight single family lots.

Hub's Landing and Marina are seeking approval for a floodway fill project that would create more usable land on the south side of its property. The request is part of a larger project that would create transient dockage for boaters looking to visit Hastings from the river. The fill is not expected to cause flooding in other areas.
