Pool leak still needs to be repaired

Body:

In the July 6, 2017, edition of the Gazette it was incorrectly stated that the pool at the Hastings Family Aquatic Center was repaired. The pool was closed June 29 through July 1 for the second repair of the season, but maintenance crews were unable to repair the leak. The pool reopened, but there is still a leak.

Chris Jenkins, the parks and recreation director, said that a leak was detected, but the area where they thought the leak was located had been inaccurate. The leak was eventually located underneath the toddler play structure.

"Unfortunately the repair on that pipe is a more technical and challenging job than our crew is up to," Jenkins said.

The repair will have to be made through a pool repair expert. Jenkins said that he has been in contact with someone to repair the pool, but it is the busy season so the company maybe not be available to repair the leak until after the season.

Even if the repair cannot be made until after the season, Jenkins said that the pool will remain in operation. Outdoor pools are used to losing water, whether it is through evaporation, leaks, splashing or when people get out of the pool.

"This is a little more water than we want to use but it's not detrimental to the operation," Jenkins said.

Jenkins said that programming will continue as planned and he encourages the community to come out and use the pool while it is nice out this season.
