City Council: Trails, site plans and next year's budget

The Hastings City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, May 7. Here's a look at a few items on the agenda.

The Vermillion trail and underpass connection near County Road 46/47 and Pleasant Drive has a price tag, and the council will be asked to award a conditional contract dependent on securing the necessary easements from property owners in the area. The city received five bids for the project, the lowest being $489,205 from Blackstone Contractors, LLC. The cost is about $23,000 higher than the budget set by the council March 19, but the finance committee is recommending moving forward, and made suggestions to address the shortfall.

Several items will be discussed relating to home properties, including a home occupation permit, design standards review and a setback.

St. Phillip's Lutheran Church is proposing a site plan for a new addition to its building. The addition would be nearly 12,500 square feet and would include office space, a lobby area and sanctuary.

A site plan approval is also being requested by Hastings Public Schools to modify the Hastings Middle School and Pinecrest Elementary School parking lots. Modifications are intended to improve safety with higher traffic flows through the pickup and drop-off zones.

The council will also discuss the process for setting the 2013 budget.
