City Council: Site plans, home business and environmental impact

The Hastings City Council is holding its second regular meeting of the month at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16. Here's a look at what they'll be talking about:

Wayne's Auto Body has brought forward a site plan for a new auto shop at 3170 Highway 316, between Burger King and the Hastings Veterinary Clinic. The planning commission recommended approval of the plan.

One year ago, Don Turnbull approached the city with a request for a type II home occupation license that would allow him to operate his headlight lens restoration company out of his home at State and Second streets. The license was approved, subject to review after one year. The council will review Turnbull's license Monday. Neighbors have been notified of the review. The city has received one favorable response, and no complaints have been brought forward in the past year. If approved, the license would be valid until 2015.

Captain's Bay marina is looking to add four slips to the 14 already in place. The city council is asked to declare that an environmental impact statement is unnecessary, as the information provided in an environmental assessment worksheet suggests there will be little impact as a result of the project.

The Hastings school district has brought forward its site plan for the construction of additional classrooms to the middle school. The planning commission recommends that the city approve the site plan, as they found no concerns with the addition.
