Hastings delegate elected governor at Model Assembly

There were 115 Hastings delegates who attended the Model Assembly conference at the state Capitol Jan. 5-8. Two Hastings delegates were elected to state positions at the conference.

Hayden Schutt, a junior at Hastings High School, was elected youth governor at the conference. Schutt campaigned for the position at the conference by asking people for support and handing out buttons and stickers.

Jack Tousignaut, a junior at Hastings High School, was elected media director. He will be in charge of all the students in the media area which includes a TV station, radio show, newspaper and social media.

The Model Assembly is a simulation of Minnesota state government in which approximately 1,600 students in grades 8-12 throughout the state take part. Students served as legislators, judges, attorneys, lobbyists, cabinet members and media representatives. The Model Assembly is a program offered by the YMCA Youth in Government.
