Hastings High School’s National Honor Society students hosted an incredible food drive for Hastings Family Service.

The students hold the food drive every year. Last year, they collected 3,666 pounds of food. This year’s results smashed that. This year, they collected 5,268 pounds of food and $153 in donations.

NHS officers Carson Whyle and Jack Varley were the lead officers for the project. Other officers are Aleaha Zabel, Britta Johnson and Maddie Fox.

The group is advised by Laura Zabel and Cindy Oppold and has a total of 71 members, all of whom are seniors at HHS.

The next local NHS project is a bake sale during high school conferences this Thursday and Friday. The bake sale provides the group the funds to operate.

The next NHS service project will be the Red Cross Blood Drive, scheduled for Jan. 16 at HHS.
