Two Hastings students earned ‘Commended Student’ designation

Hastings High School Principal Mike Johnson announced recently that senior class members Maria Ross and Finley Myers have been named Commended Students in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented by Hastings School District Superintendent Tim Collins to these at Awards Night on May 18, 2015.

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2015 competition for National Merit Scholarships, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2015 competition by taking the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT).

HHS Principal Mike Johnson said he is very proud of Ross and Myers.

“They represent the entire Hastings community well as they achieve academically at a very high level, are heavily involved in school activities and are positive leaders within the school,” he wrote.
