Fifth-grade students compete in regional math event

The Hastings Middle School Fifth Grade Math Masters teams competed in a regional Math Masters event April 25 in Lakeville. There were 201 students (45 teams) from around the Twin Cities competing. The competition included a fact drill round, individual rounds and team rounds.

Placing sixth and receiving ribbons was the Blue Team (Kyle Bauer, Brooke Erickson, Simon Hedin, Makenzi Jorgensen, Jake Sandquist and alternate Colton Huebsch). The Gold Team (Marcus Flynn, Liam Keller, McKayla Kielas, Sam O’Connor, Veronica Radke and alternate Nate Dehmlow) placed 12th out of the 45 teams.

In the individual rounds, Veronica Radke received a medal for placing seventh and Brooke Erickson received a medal for placing 10th out of 201 students. Simon Hedin placed 26th. Brooke Erickson and Jake Sandquist placed 22nd in the fast fact round.

The teams were coached by Linda Bindman.
