Hastings High School ceramics students are hard at work preparing for an annual fundraiser. Empty Bowls will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, in the Hastings High School commons area.

The service-learning project will include a silent auction and light meal, followed by a short musical performance by HHS choir students. There will then be a presentation on hunger in the community.

“It’s exciting for me to see the students get behind it and get excited about doing this,” teacher Bert Casperson said. “They’re thinking about the contribution they’re going to make, and the people they’re going to help. There’s actually hunger in Hastings that we don’t often see.”

There is a suggested minimum donation of $10 for a handmade bowl to use that evening and take home as a reminder that there are always empty bowls in the world.

Proceeds benefit Hastings Family Service and Heifer International. This year’s event aims to raise $4,000 or more.
