Warren named state’s choral director of the year

Hastings vocal music director Lin Warren is about to pick up a prestigious statewide award.

Warren is the 2013 winner of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association’s Choral Director of the Year award. He will be among those honored at the ACDA statewide convention on Saturday, Nov. 23.

“I’m humbled by it,” Warren said. “There are so many tremendous choirs in the state, at all levels. It was hard for me to believe (I won). It’s an incredible honor.”

Warren has taught in Hastings for 28 years. He received a Bachelor of Music degree from Hastings College in Hastings, Neb., and then earned a Master of Arts in Music from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

This isn’t the first time Warren has earned awards from ACDA and others. In 1988, he earned the ACDA’s Outstanding Young Choral Director Award for the state. He was the Teacher of the Year in 1989 in Hastings and in 2009 he was named the school district’s Employee of the Year.

Warren is hard at work with fellow directors in Hastings to put on the popular holiday concerts, which are set for 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14.

Show choir is also ramping up for its 2014 competitive season.

“It’s just a really exciting time,” Warren said.

He said that he’ll have 16 guests who will be joining him at the awards presentation. He said he was thankful that so many people will be able to be with him on the big day.

“It means a lot to me that they’re taking a Saturday to come and be with me,” he said.
