The Orange Dragon Art Gallery, sponsored by the Hastings Prescott Area Art Council (HPAAC), has opened its new youth gallery featuring art from area children. The youth gallery, "Sky's the Limit," occupies the back room of the Orange Dragon, located at 122 Orange St.
The first junior exhibitor in Sky's the Limit is Prescott third grader Elspeth Dempsey-Rice. Elspeth approached Orange Dragon about selling her bracelet creations, and inspired Orange Dragon's Advisory Committee to create the youth gallery.
"We are thrilled to be able to offer exhibit space to budding artists," said Mecca Manz, co-manager of the Orange Dragon and Director of Visual Arts for the HPAAC. "Our hope is that the entire process, from submitting art for jury to marketing and merchandising, will provide a valuable learning experience."
Sky's the Limit will also include artwork from students of Hastings Middle School teacher Elizabeth Carroll. Her students were invited to submit poster ideas for HPAAC's Art in the Garden Tour, which will be held June 15. Those submissions, including the winning poster by fifth grader Lillian Flint, will be on display.
In the main gallery, the new exhibit, Natural High, features local artists and their interpretations of the natural world.
"We are always amazed and intrigued by the variety of artwork we receive for exhibit from our artist members and their interpretations of our exhibit themes," said Libby Ungar, co-manager of the Orange Dragon and beading artist.
Both exhibits will run to July 7.
Orange Dragon's summer hours are Wednesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fine art and gifts are available for purchase during gallery hours.
