Middle school offers summer programs

Hastings Middle School is offering a Summer Academy program for its returning students this summer.

The Summer Academy is for students currently in fifth through eighth grade, and includes enrichment offering and academic recovery classes.

The programs will be held at the Middle School from 8:30 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday, June 17 to July 12 (no classes July 4 and 5).

Enrichment class offerings are Show Choir Camp, Art Camp, and Raider Blast.

The Show Choir Camp will be held June 17 to June 27 in the choir room at Hastings High School. Students involved in this camp will prepare a show for an audience where they will learn the fundamentals of show choir such as proper singing, choreography, and basic performance etiquette. The show will consists of a variety of familiar pop, rock songs. The fee is $50.

Art Camp students will learn to use the visual arts to engage their creativity and imagination with art projects. There will be an exhibit of their work at Pleasant Hill Library. The fee is $100. For more information, contact Elizabeth Carroll at the Middle School.

Raider Blast will offer students a variety of programs, including rocket building, computer activities, and games. The cost is $100.

No transportation is provided for these programs. There are some scholarships available for enrichment programs.

Academic recovery classes are offered in English, social studies, and math, and course offerings are designed for students who did not achieve academic success during the 2012-2013 school year. They are designed to fulfill state and national standards.

There is no charge for this program.
