It's back-to-school time

It's back to school for about 5,000 students in Hastings Independent School District 200 schools, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and area schools.

Hastings High School

The first day of school - Monday, Aug. 30 - is only for ninth grade and new students, and their Link Leaders. (Link Crew pairs new students with older student leaders to create a positive connection with the school.) All students will report for classes on Tuesday, Aug. 31.

The high school will hold an open house Thursday, Sept. 9. The evening will give parents the opportunity to follow their child's schedule and meet each teacher.

The schedule for the evening is SchoolView signup, yearbook purchase and pick up schedule: 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.; welcome in the Commons, 7 p.m. to 7:10 p.m. and follow child's schedule, 7:15 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Parents will be able to order the high school yearbook at the open house and receive a price discount.

Students can come to school to set up their lockers this week. They can also buy parking stickers at the school attendance window. The fee is $100 per semester.

There is a daily parking fee of $3 for those students who only drive occasionally to school.

Hastings Middle School

Students in grades six to eight begin class Monday, Aug. 30, at the Middle School.

Orientation for students was held last week. Anyone with questions can contact the office.

Seton School

Classes for kindergarten to grade eight students begin Monday, Aug. 30, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School. It will be full day of classes.

The preschool program, which is full, will hold an open house from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the church, 2035 W. 15th St. The open house coincides with the open house for the kindergarten program. There is time for parents to participate in both.

While the preschool program (all morning sessions) is full, the program is accepting names for a waiting list. For more information, call 438-3223.

Pine Harbor

Pine Harbor Christian Academy, affiliated with The Harbor, began classes Monday, Aug. 23. The kindergarten to grade six school uses the latest curriculum by Alpha Omega, ACSI and A Beka Publications. All students receive daily instruction in language arts, math, social studies, bible, history and science. Students are also provided with weekly opportunities to participate in computer, physical, music and home economics.

St. John the Baptist Catholic

St. John the Baptist Catholic School, Vermillion, is a kindergarten to grade five school. Classes begin Monday, Aug. 30.

For the two-day preschool program, the first day is Tuesday, Aug. 31; for the three-day program, the first day is Wednesday, Sept. 1.
