Two juveniles arrested after stealing car

Two juvenile males are facing a number of serious charges after an incident here last week.

The juveniles were arrested after a report of a burglary and the theft of motor vehicle at 1:02 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9.

Hastings police officers were called to an auto repair facility in the 1900 block of Vermillion Street at after a vehicle was seen leaving the business. Officers responded and found signs of forced entry at the business. The vehicle that was seen leaving was silver in color and had a loud muffler.

An officer also on duty that night saw a car matching the description of the stolen vehicle at highways 61 and 55.

That officer attempted to stop the vehicle but it sped away. The officer gave chase on Highway 55 west. The chase continued through Hastings on Westview Drive, Pleasant Drive and along Fourth Street before the car eventually died near Lions Park.

Two juveniles were found in the car. They were both arrested for third degree burglary, felony theft, fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and underage consumption. Both of the juveniles are 14-year-old boys. They had a backpack full of liquor with them. Officers have had previous contact with the two.
