Here is a preview of this week's police report. The entire report can be found on Page 4A of this week's print edition.
• An employee theft was reported in the 1700 block of Frontage Road on Tuesday, June 18. A store security officer saw an employee stealing donuts and scoops of ice cream and reported the theft to police.
The loss was estimated at $8.
The employee admitted to stealing the ice cream.
• Merchandise was reportedly stolen from a store in the 1000 block of Vermillion Street. Video surveillance shows a man stealing $450 worth of Crest White Strips.
On June 20, Hastings police learned the man seen in the video was arrested in Idaho for theft. He is a suspect in hundreds of thefts nationwide from the same store.
• Two neighbors in the 100 block of State Street were having issues and officers mediated.
One of the problems between the two parties is that the man involved continually revs his engine and talks to the woman’s cat.
• Officers were called to the 300 block of Tiffany Drive on the report of an unknown male in a yard. The call came in at 4:18 a.m on Sunday, June 16.
While in route, the officers learned the man was pounding on the home’s front door. Just before officers arrived, they learned the man had forced his way into the home.
Officers saw two males just inside the front door. The homeowner threw the intoxicated man out of his house. The man said he was at a bar and had been staying with a relative. He thought he was at the relative’s house, which was why he was banging on the door.
