Afton’s Sail Away Cafe has closed.
In a post on its Facebook page on Feb. 8, Sail Away Cafe, located at 3121 St. Croix Trail S. in Afton’s Old Village, wrote: “Sail Away is permanently closed. Sadly we did not get enough business to sustain. Great efforts were made but the personal sacrifice for us became too great. It was time for us to move on to new beginnings. Thank you to those who supported Sail Away through the years.”
Sail Away Cafe was owned by Afton resident Oliver Weir.
The Woodbury Bulletin attempted to reach the restaurant for comment but was not successful.
As of Friday, the restaurant's recognizable boat sail was already taken down as was the restaurant's name from the marquee out front.
Sail Away Cafe, which opened in 2008, was known for breakfast, sandwiches, soups, salads and fresh coffee drinks.
Hopefully, the Sail Away Cafe won’t be closed for long, though.
Afton City Council was scheduled to hold a public hearing a proposed liquor license during its Feb. 16 meeting for Lumberyard Pub, which is proposed to move into the Sail Away Cafe location.
A recording on the Sail Away Cafe voicemail states that Lumberyard Pub will be opening this spring.
Requests for comment from the Lumberyard Pub were not immediately returned.
