Hastings Chrysler plans to open car wash
The Hastings Planning Commission approved plans for a new car wash on the Shell Rapid Lube building at Hastings Chrysler. The car wash is being proposed for use by owners of newly purchased vehicles from Hastings Chrysler and Ford and would be located on the northeast side of the existing building.
Planning commissioners approved the site plan after discussing landscaping in the area with Hastings Chrysler's agent, Dan Tilsen of GGG Engineering. Although the site plan doesn't require any additional landscaping, commissioner Dan Slaten encouraged Tilsen to consider adding more to the plan to make the corner look more appealing.
"Visually, this is corner is one of the least scenic corners in the southern end of town," Slaten said.
Other commissioners didn't necessarily agree, however. Adam Estenson said that for safety reasons, he likes that there's high visibility there. The site is located at the intersection of highways 61 and 316. Associate Planner Justin Fortney also noted that there may be restrictions from the Minnesota Department of Transportation regarding what type of landscaping could be done along the highway.
Slaten cast the only dissenting vote on the approval. Included in the approval are several conditions set by city staff and a one year sunset clause. If significant progress toward construction is not made within one year of city council approval, the approval will become void.
