UPDATED: Victim found; search ends for Minnesota man drowned near Prescott
Three days after he fell from a courtesy dock in Prescott, the body of a Minnesota man was found just a short distance away from where he disappeared in the St. Croix River.
A citizen noticed the body of Merriett M. Maul Jr., 65, and called authorities.
Investigator Doug Ducklow said the citizen was near the public dock area and observed the body near the railroad lift bridge in the water about 8:55 p.m., Friday.
Maul was later pronounced dead by the Pierce County Medical Examiner.
Maul, from Welch, Minn., was last seen falling from a dock about 8:17 p.m. Tuesday, June 26th. He failed to surface.
Authorities were told he didn't know how to swim and was not wearing a life vest.
A search was begun immediately, using sonar and dive teams from Prescott, St. Croix- and Washington counties. Deputies continued the search through Thursday.
Ducklow said there was no foul play suspected in connection with Maul's death.
