Kenyon business owner faces criminal sex charges

A Kenyon man heavily involved in that community of 1,700 has been charged with three counts of criminal sexual conduct.

Several young boys have come forward to say Patrick Luna made sexual comments to them while they worked at Pat's Pit Stop.

Luna owns the popular pizza and video rental shop in the city's downtown area.

The 40-year-old is accused of convincing one of the alleged male victims to have sexual intercourse with him several times, according to a criminal complaint filed in Goodhue County District Court.

Some of the alleged sexual activity happened at Pat's Pit Stop over a three-year span starting in September 2003.

The boy said Luna allegedly paid him and gave him "stuff" to perform sexual acts, according to the complaint. The boy was 12 or 13 when the alleged sexual acts began.

A maintenance worker for the city's Public Works Department, Luna is also a member of the volunteer fire department and a substitute driver for the bus company that provides bus services to Kenyon schools.

Luna was instrumental in creating teen events for the city's annual summer Rose Fest celebration.

Kenyon City Administrator Aaron Reeves said he's aware Luna has been arrested but will not take action until he's seen the criminal complaint.

"We will be doing something but what that is, I don't know," Reeves said Friday.

The Kenyon City Council must approve Reeves' decision. Reeves did say Luna would be suspended if the charges reached felony levels.

Authorities began investigating Luna in 2006 after a woman came forward claiming he allegedly made inappropriate sexual comments to her son. The boy was 16 at the time, according to the complaint.

During the investigation officers identified several juvenile males who worked at Pat's Pit Stop and were paid in cash.

Three of them reported Luna had allegedly made sexual comments to them; two reported he touched them sexually, the complaint said.

Charges filed against Luna by the Goodhue County Attorney's Office are in reference to only one of those victims. It remains unclear whether more charges will be filed.

Luna is scheduled to make his first court appearance at 1 p.m. Monday. He was arrested Thursday evening and is facing criminal sexual conduct charges in the first, second and third degree.

If convicted of all three felony counts, Luna faces a maximum of 70 years in prison and a $105,000 fine.
