Man arrested following standoff with police Sept. 9

A Hastings man was arrested following a standoff with police Saturday, Sept. 9.

Warren Kocurek, 57, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault after Hastings police responded to the 2300 block of Pine Street at 12:04 p.m. for a report of a domestic disturbance. According to police, a female victim escaped the address after being threatened with a handgun. The woman told officers that there was a male in the residence with a potential mental health crisis.

Officers set up a perimeter. A few blocks surrounding the area were closed off for several hours and traffic was diverted away from the situation.

The Dakota County MAAG team responded to the incident, but they were unable to make contact with the male in the residence. It was later learned that the male had possibly escaped the residence prior to the police arriving on the call.

Officers located Kocurek near the intersection of Tyler and Sixth streets at about 4:30 p.m. where he was arrested.
