More than 400 runners compete in Apple Blossom races

The 32nd annual Apple Blossom Races were held Sunday, May 21, at Carpenter Nature Center. There were more than 400 registered runners for the 5K, 10K, half marathon and 2K Fun Run. The courses began at St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, went through the hilly St. Croix Valley, past the apple orchards, some traveled through the CNC trail system and all ended at the finish line in front of the historic Carpenter Home.

The first-place finisher for the half marathon was Benjamin Jacobs, of Minnetonka, with a time of one hour, 21 minutes and 33 seconds. The top finisher from Hastings was Shawn Bertsch in 13th with a time of 1:42:10.

The top finisher for the 10K was Anthony Johannes, of St. Paul, with a time of 38:04. The top Hastings finisher came in fourth place with a time of 43:41. The first-place finisher in the 5K was Jesse Becker, of Osseo, Minn., with a time of 16:17. The top Hastings finisher was Nicholas Johnson in third place with a time of 19:55.

Proceeds from the event will support the environmental education programming for area K-12 schools at Carpenter Nature Center.
