On Friday evening, July 29, a group of community members showed their support for law enforcement on the Hastings Highway 61 bridge.

Event organizers had created a Facebook group called “Let’s Unite by Candlelight to Support Our Law Enforcement.” Community members who wanted to join were asked to bring a candle, a blue or tan balloon, a lantern or a glowstick. The goal was to light the bridge from beginning to end.

The group, which included some police officers, met near City Hall and walked to the center of the Hastings Highway 61 bridge carrying balloons and signs of support. Some of the signs read “We love our police officers,” “We support our men & women in blue,” “Thank you Hastings police,” and “God Bless America.”

The balloons were released in the middle of the bridge and they floated into the sky in show of support for the local police officers.
