Community members plan to light the High Bridge in support of law enforcement
A Facebook event was created by some community members to show support for law enforcement. The “Let’s Unite by Candlelight to Support Our Law Enforcement” event says it will take place July 29 at 8 p.m. Community members are asked to bring a candle, a blue or tan balloon, a lantern or a glowstick.
The group plans to meet at the grassy area on the north side of the City Hall building on Third and Vermillion streets. At 8:30 p.m., they will walk onto the Hastings Highway 61 bridge as a group. They will release balloons with a moment of silence, followed by the lighting of candles, glowsticks and lanterns. The goal is to light the bridge from beginning to end.
Organizers of the event said they want to show local law enforcement that the citizens support them.
