Bridge down to one lane this week for anti-icing system

The Minnesota Department of Transportation recently released an update on Hastings' Highway 61 bridge construction.

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in both directions through Thursday, June 12, at 5 p.m. Crews will be installing sensors and pucks for the bridge's anti-icing system. Lane closures are necessary to allow the pavement glue used to install the pucks to cure before motorists are able to drive across them.

Further lane closures will be necessary when crews begin fixing the flaking concrete on the railing. Details on that part of the project have yet to be released.

Remaining work includes completion of the median barrier on the north side of the bridge, additional landscaping, construction of the public plaza under the Second Street overpass and additional parking spaces for downtown. The project will be finished in July.
