Find a pot hole? Send a text to the city's public works department

The Hastings Public Works Department encourages community members to report pot holes in need of repair on public streets within the City limits. Now anyone can anonymously text the exact location of the pot hole to City staff using the City's Tip411 account. Simply texting the key word Hastings and the location of the pot hole to 847411(tip411) will assist City staff in tracking and monitoring progress toward the goal of fixing all pot holes this spring. Residents without text messaging capability may call Public Works at 651-480-6185 or send the information to:

Each spring, Hastings Public Works crews repair hundreds of pot holes throughout the City's many miles of public streets. While the goal of Public Works staff is to locate and fix all pot holes as quickly as possible, residents can help by communicating problem locations to be added to the crew assignments.

Pot holes are a common occurrence in Minnesota and become most prominent in early spring because of freezing and thawing.

"Our goal is to repair pot holes as quickly and effectively as possible," said Hastings Public Works Director Thomas Montgomery. "Our residents' assistance in developing our pothole "to do" list is invaluable. Unfortunately, potholes need to be dry to patch, and high traffic roads will receive priority for patching, so your patience and understanding is appreciated if your pothole tip is not immediately acted upon. As we develop our list of problem areas with the location tips, we will deploy crews as soon as possible," he added.

The City of Hastings began using Tip411 (847411) in early 2012. Since that time, Hastings residents have provided City staff hundreds of anonymous tips and information about crime, code enforcement problems, and public works concerns.
