Meeting ends in assault
A 48-year-old River Falls, Wis., man, Gary John Best, faces a felony charge of assault in the third degree after a Feb. 19 incident in Hastings. According to the criminal complaint, Hastings Police were called to Regina Medical Center to investigate a possible assault. There, they made contact with a man who said he and Best had a disagreement the previous day. On this day, the man and Best met with their supervisor. The two were sitting across from each other at a table when Best began verbally abusing him. He responded negatively and Best then punched him in the face. The supervisor stepped in and pulled Best off the man. The man said Best attacked him a second time and again, the supervisor pulled Best off of him.
The man received medical treatment for his injuries. The supervisor confirmed the man's account of what had happened.
Police made contact with Best by phone. He reportedly admitted he struck the man. Best turned himself in to police Feb. 20.
