Farmers place in state corn yield contest

Two entries from Hastings recently placed in the 2012 National Corn Growers' Association's (NCGA) Corn Yield Contest in Minnesota.

Bill Schaffer of Hastings earned second place in the Irrigated division with Pioneer brand hybrid 34F07, which yielded 289 bushels per acre.

Cedar Ridge Ent. of Hastings took third place in the Irrigated division with Pioneer brand hybrid P0533AM1, which yielded 280 bushels per acre.

The winners earned two of the 274 state titles won by growers planting Pioneer hybrids. The NCGA awarded 421 state titles in this year's contest. 

The NCGA Corn Yield Contest is an annual competition among corn producers with the goal of producing the highest yields. In the contest, growers compete within a broad range of corn production classes, including non-irrigated, no-till/strip-till non-irrigated, no-till/strip-till irrigated, ridge-till non-irrigated, ridge-till irrigated and irrigated classes.
