Hastings K9 officer apprehends suspect, who had buried himself in a pile of topsoil

Hastings officers assisted the Dakota County Sherriff's office on a call at 2:05 a.m. in the area of Sixth and Forest streets.

A deputy had made a traffic stop and the driver fled from the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was known and had an active felony warrant.

The Hastings K9 officer, Ozzy, tracked the male with his partner Mike Schmitz.

Ozzy led officers to the top of a loose pile of dirt. Ozzy kept scratching the dirt with his muzzle. Within seconds, it became apparent Ozzy had apprehended the man, who had buried himself in a pile of topsoil.

The suspect sustained some bites to his right forearm and was taken into custody.
