Accident report for the week ending Aug. 20

Saturday, Aug. 11

• A vehicle pulling into a parking spot at the M&H gas station ran into a post. No one was injured, but the vehicle sustained extensive damage. The incident was reported at 2:04 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 12

• Michael Myshin, 19, Hastings, was cited for careless driving after colliding with a legally parked vehicle at the intersection of 36th Street and Century Drive. Myshin told police he lost control when he reached down to pick up a lighter. The crash was reported at 7:15 a.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 15

• Firefighters responded to a carbon monoxide leak at a home in the 2100 block of Spring Street at 7:30 a.m. The gas was turned off and the residence aired out.

• Firefighters responded to a crash in the 300 block of East First Street. No one was injured.

• A bicyclist was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Highway 55 and Pine Street at about 9:20 p.m. The bicyclist told police he had stopped on the bike path and waited for the light indicating he could cross. When he started, a vehicle pulled in front of him onto Highway 55 from Pine Street, struck the bike's tire and fled the scene. Police were unable to locate the driver. The bicyclist was not injured.

Friday, Aug. 17

• Police advised two parties on a report that one had backed her vehicle into another in the 2100 block of Vermillion Street. The incident was reported at 11:19 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 18

• Firefighters were called to a crash in the 18000 block of Red Wing Boulevard at 12:33 p.m. No one was reported injured.

Sunday, Aug. 19

• Three people were taken to the hospital following a crash at the intersection of 15th Street and Pleasant Drive. The crash was reported at 2:23 p.m. Bradley Schmierer, 60, Hastings, was cited for inattentive driving. Schmierer reportedly was reaching down for a pen while approaching a stop sign. He told police that when he looked up and saw the car in front of him, he couldn't stop in time. The driver of the forward car and two of her passengers were taken to the hospital.

Monday, Aug. 20

• A vehicle struck a tree in the 12000 block of 190th Street. No injuries were reported, but fuel was leaking from the vehicle. The incident was reported at 3:54 p.m.

• Firefighters were called at 9:33 p.m. to an unknown spill in the road in the 700 block of 19th Street. Responders found some residue and washed it down with water.
