Pleasant Hill Library has more than just books

Pleasant Hill Library is located on the west side of Hastings along Highway 55.

Imagine a place where anyone can have free Internet access, access to a variety of compact discs and movies, more than 100 magazines, eight local newspapers and a seemingly endless number of books. You can find all that and more at Pleasant Hill Library.

The library is well-equipped with computers and has a total of 10 computers with access to the Internet, all having full graphical access. There are two computers for word processing and spread sheets. There are also self-check machines for checkout of materials without staff intervention.

Free Internet access has been a popular feature for library users in recent years. The library not only offers Internet access but has expanded its subscriptions to various Web sites that people would have to pay for at home.

Pleasant Hill Library offers a sizable children's area, facing a large round window, a cozy reading lounge, an after-hours book drop, several private study and viewing rooms, and an all-purpose community and meeting room, with seating for 80 people. There is also a computer learning center, with educational programs, in the children's area.

The library offers children various reading and learning programs throughout the year. The summer reading program series includes shows that are both entertaining and educational.

Pleasant Hill Library was dedicated Sept. 11, 1994. The new building replaced the old one, which was destroyed by fire in June 1993.
