Suspect identified in hit-and-run

Hastings police have located the car and named the driver involved in a hit-and-run accident Tuesday, Oct. 12 at Highways 55 and 61. The Minnesota State Patrol continues its investigation of the accident.

According to a state-filed accident report by Hastings Police, the owner of the vehicle is identified as Jacob Nils Hansen of Hastings. On Wednesday morning he was named by the Minnesota State Patrol as the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash.

The driver of the other vehicle, a motorcycle, was William Rhode, 51 of Hastings.

He was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. He sustained serious injuries and was listed in good condition earlier this week, according to the hospital.

The accident at Highways 61 and 55 was reported shortly after 8:30 p.m. The motorcycle was southbound on Highway 61 near Highway 55. The second vehicle was northbound on Highway 61 and made a left turn onto Highway 55, apparently cutting the motorcycle off. The motorcycle crashed into the side of the car. The car left the scene.

The vehicle was located at a Hastings residence the following day.

Charges have not been filed yet against Hansen.

Rhode was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
