Crash victim was 1993 graduate of Red Wing High School

The Minnesota State Patrol said the man killed Monday near the Hastings bridge was 1993 Red Wing Central High School graduate Brian Jacobson.

According to troopers, Jacobson, 34, was killed after the car he was driving was struck head-on by two other vehicles that had careened into oncoming Highway 61 traffic.

The crash occurred at 6:20 a.m. just north of the bridge. Troopers said the multi-vehicle collision began when a southbound car driven by Anthony Mancheski, 19, Maplewood, Minn., struck another southbound vehicle - a Toyota SR5 driven by Ka Lee, 47, of Newport, Minn.

Both southbound vehicles lost control and crossed into the northbound lane, where they struck Jacobson's 1996 Saturn SL2.

Mancheski and Lee both received minor injuries. The driver of a fourth car that also was struck by Mancheski's vehicle was not injured.

Jacobson, of Lake City, was wearing a seat belt, as were Mancheski and Lee.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to the State Patrol.

Goodhue County Veterans Service Officer Bob Davis said Jacobson was a staff sergeant in the Army National Guard. Jacobson served two tours in Iraq as part of the 434th Chemical Co., returning from his most recent deployment July 2009.

"He was definitely one of our own," Davis said.
