Portion of County Road 46 in Hastings will be resurfaced this summer

The Minnesota Transportation Department and the City of Hastings Public Works Department have construction projects set to go in and around the city.

The Dakota County Transportation Department also has set road, bridge and trail projects for this summer.

A portion of Dakota County Road 46 (160th Street) will be resurfaced from the Vermillion River bridge (Pleasant Drive ) east to Highway 61 (Vermillion Street). As part of this work, the city will do some repairs to the drainage structures, manholes, and gate valves. The work is estimated to cost about $7,000.

For most resurfacing, pavement rehabilitation is accomplished by overlaying the existing roadway with a new layer of asphalt. It may be necessary in some areas to grind away an inch or two of existing pavement before placing the top layer of asphalt. This process is called a "mill and overlay."

This resurfacing project is scheduled for August, following the completion of the resurfacing project on Highway 61 (Vermillion Street) in the city.

The county also plans to resurface County Road 91 from 210th Street to Highway 316 in Marshan Township.

Bridge replacement projects are tentatively scheduled on 205th Street East and Lewiston Boulevard in Vermillion Township and Michael Avenue in Marshan Township.

The Mississippi River Regional Trail segment from Spring Lake Park along County Road 87 in Nininger Township to County Road 42 is scheduled for this summer.

The proposed trail will begin in Spring Lake Park Reserve and extend through wooded areas and fields to County Road 87 (Lock Boulevard), where it will continue along the south side of County Road 87 to County Road 42. There, it will connect with an existing trail.

The Nininger portion of the trail is expected to cost $1.2 million, with a federal transportation grant of $696,000 covering part and a local county match of about $511,000 covering the remaining cost.
