Hastings Tastings has most successful evening
This year's Hastings Tastings was the most successful in the 15-year history of the event.
A total of 20 restaurants participated, 424 guests (up from 275 in 2009) enjoyed the food, and the event raised $18,766 (up from $11,509 last year). This annual fundraiser kicks off Minnesota FoodShare month for Hastings Family Service.
This year, the campaign is calling for everyone to "be a superhero in the fight against hunger." With support from civic groups, businesses, congregations, schools and individuals, Minnesota FoodShare is working to raise 12 million combined pounds and dollars.
Locally Hastings Family Service has set a goal to raise $140,000 and 20,000 pounds of food between now and April 9, 2010. All dollars raised and Minnesota FoodShare and the Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation will proportionately match pounds of food gathered during the campaign.
Have you ever been hungry? Do you remember what it feels like? Forty-five percent of the people who use the food shelf at Hastings Family Service report that someone in their household went hungry in the past month as they didn't have enough food. That is happening here in Hastings.
Last year 3,111 individuals used one or more services at HFS. The community's support this month will continue to ensure that no one has to go hungry.
