Suspected TCF Bank robber apprehended

The Minneapolis FBI announced Thursday that the man believed to be responsible for the May 9 robbery of the Hastings TCF Bank has been apprehended.

Taron David Gilyard, 25, Gary, Ind., was arrested without incident around 6 a.m. July 5 at the Greyhound Bus station in St. Paul.

On July 8, a criminal complaint was filed against Gilyard in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis alleging that Gilyard was responsible for the May 14 robbery of a Premier Bank in Roseville and the May 23 robbery of an Anchor Bank in Eagan.

FBI Special Agent Paul McCabe said the investigation into the May 9 robbery of the Hastings TCF Bank is still under way, but Gilyard is a suspect.

Gilyard made his first appearance in court July 8 and was ordered detained pending further court proceedings.

Hastings Police Chief Mike McMenomy said DNA taken from a sweatshirt dropped at the scene of the Hastings bank robbery helped authorities track Gilyard down.

According to an earlier release from the FBI, Gilyard is also suspected of robbing banks in Duluth, Forest Lake, Oakdale and St. Paul.
