Daddy Daughter dance is April 20

Dads, grab your best girl and come to the fourth annual Daddy Daughter Dance from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the Hastings Middle School.

This year's theme is "Back to the 50s Sock Hop," and attending couples are encouraged to dress in 1950s style clothing.

Just about all the activities that evening are geared to the theme, said Hastings Community Education Director Mary O'Brien.

There will also be a French beauty parlor where the girls can learn some make-up tips and apply temporary tattoos from the decade.

Games will include "Pop the Balloon," "Blow the Biggest Bubble (with bubble gum)," a hula hoop contest and there will be a limbo contest for Dad.

Hastings resident Nick Werner will be the DJ, playing dance tunes such as the jitterbug, the lindy, the twist and the cha cha. Some lessons will be provided.

Photos by Victoria's V Gallery will be available to purchase.

The evening has proven to be a very popular one for dads (or that special adult) and their daughters, ages 3 to fifth grade. There are usually between 125 to 150 couples at the dance. The cost is $40 per couple, with an additional $5 for each additional child. The cost includes dinner, which will consist of hot dogs, hamburgers and French fries.

Registration can be completed online at, or by stopping in at the Tilden Community Center or the Hastings Area YMCA. The registration deadline is April 12.

Hastings Community Education and the Hastings Area YMCA are again the sponsoring the dance.
