River action volunteer event is June 18

RAVE is hosting a free community clean up event and canoe ride in Hastings on June 18 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Meet at Jaycee park. Part park ranger tour, part volunteer restoration event, River Action Volunteer Events (RAVEs) are a fun way to explore the river and do some good!

For our June RAVE we will explore the southern reaches of Mississippi National River and Recreation Area in Hastings and Prescott, Wisconsin. Paddle a 24-foot Voyageur canoe with National Park Rangers while they discuss colorful Mississippi history, important geological features, birds and wildlife along the shore!

Throughout the trip, we'll make stops on shore at areas along the river that need significant restoration. Volunteers will work together to clean up trash and remove invasive species. The physical work load is moderate and appropriate for adults and children ages 10 and up.
